During APEC (Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation) every student in Beijing had basically a week off, so three friends of mine, Konstantin, Rojan, and Lukas, and I decided to go to Tianjin which is around 1,5h away from Beijing in order to get out of the city and to visit Petra and Thisha, who I know from Heidelberg.
Tianjin is completely different from Beijing! First of all the architecture, it looks so… wannabe-western(?) and people here are so much more friendlier than in Beijing that we noticed how rude we’ve become…
But first things first: The train ride, for me it was ok, because I didn’t have the aisle seat but Rojan kind of got other people’scrotches shoved into his face during the whole train ride… When we arrived in the hostel they told us we couldn’t stay in oneroom because I’m a girl, although we booked a mixed room because that hostel apparently didn’t offer that (hostelworld saysotherwise but oh well). Since we didn’t really have another choice I had to sleep in another room which was a bitinconvenient. Anyway, after putting our stuff into our rooms we made our way to the Nanshi Cuisine Street 南市食品街 and stayed there for around 2 hours and were basically eating for these 2 hours before we met Thisha, Petra and some friends oftheirs.
Afterwards we went to a bar and to a club. Yep. I went to a club. For the people who don’t really know me: I’m not a club person. Not. At. All. But if you drink enough alcohol you can tolerate this ear-deathening music and the people who try to grope you. Honestly though, it wasn’t as bad as expected, one reason would be that I was with a lot of great people there and reason number two would be that Rojan was looking after me. Seriously, he was right by my side as soon as I looked uncomfortable or when that drunk guy wouldn’t take my “no” as a no.
By the way, that night I figured out that when I drink too much alcohol it will affect my Chinese pronunciation and those taxi drivers have no idea what I’m saying. Which was bad because we had to get back to our hostel somehow and they all said they couldn’t read the address because they have bad eyes (which makes me wonder how they drive…). In the end, we got back around 4 am and had to wake one of the workers because they close the doors around midnight.
8th November
9th November
We just took the bus and got off somewhere and walked the way back to that Marco Polo Plaza because we wanted to see how it’s like during the day.
Oh, and we probably saw some famous people shooting something in Tianjin? But none of us recognized them
